I thought I would give you all a little update on me since it’s been a while since I have. As much of you already know, I basically been volunteering my services with AmeriCorps as a VISTA Volunteer. I’m currently assigned to the Brighton Center where my one year service ends in middle of September 19, 2010. I’m currently the Housing Support VISTA. My job is to provide housing resources to employees of Brighton Center, to the customers or clients of Brighton Center, and other agencies that calls me. Also, I try and help homeless individuals and/or families housing as well. This is a full time job and at the end of my time I will be getting federal job experience as well.
I’m currently considering doing another year of this but in a way that depends on Brighton Center. My end goal is to become full time with Brighton Center. But if that doesn’t happen I might just do this another year. Where I’m not sure. As an AmeriCorps Volunteer I have meet a lot of great people from friends to business contacts. Also, working as AmeriCorps Volunteer has helped me slowly get back on my feet allowing me to work on the things that I need to work on personally. As well as getting me full time experience, volunteer experience, and federal experience which should open up another whole job sector for me when I start looking for a job. At the end of my service, I should be back on my feet better than I was at this time last year. To work myself back from being homeless and jobless to where I’m at now is a great feat for somebody like me. I couldn’t be any more excited than I am right now. So, I’m very happy that I’m doing what I’m doing because it has should me the directions I want to take my life in.
